Cheap$kates Put Up a Good Fight In The Loss of Their Season Opener.
Well, the first game of their inaugural season started off fast paced and didn't stop until the buzzer sounded at the end of the game. With a very strong fan presence in the crowd, the team started off sluggish shooting 1 for 10 in the first minutes of the game and showed signs that league play is a whole different level. That didn't stop the Cheapskates though. As soon as they caught their breath to keep up with the fast moving St. John team and their penetrating point guard, the Cheapskates began to put up a good fight. Leading the way was Nick Ferrara who led the team with 12 points although shooting 6 for 17. Nick, who took a few minutes to warm up his shot, made baskets sporadically throughout the game and also helped bring down 8 of the team's 35 rebounds. The one who controlled the boards though was Jorge Mata, 2-7 with 4 pts, who led the team with 14 rebounds, obviously controlling the presence inside the paint on both offense and defense. Other notables were George Dimopoulos 2-3, 6pts, 3 rebs, as he daringly tallied up 4 fouls, and Andre Cordero 2-4, 4 pts, 2 rebs, 1 assist. One entertaining highlight of the game was Enrico Najera's errant pass into the fan bleachers which struck a bull's-eye on a waiting player. We hope that fellow is alright.

Game 1 set the tempo for the season so be ready to catch your Cheap$kates in action in game two as they take on AEG next week on Tuesday, 1/29 at 6pm, live at the Cameron Community Center, or brought to you by your local service provider.
